So around Christmas time my dear husband and I were teased with the opportunity to rescue a Chow puppy. We had a Chow for many years (RIP Lucille) and were really missing a canine companion so the thought of rescuing this baby had us all excited. Through no fault of anyone we did not end up getting this tiny black female Chow (husband’s dream dog). So we started looking for our next family member. We found her and brought her home. See previous post Hello Pepper.
She is now 12 weeks old, which means that she has spent exactly half of her life in our family. My dear husband picked her out (I wanted a Burmese Mountain dog) and planned on this being his new little girl. Then he goes and works insane amounts of hours while I do all the doggie care and guess what? She is my baby girl. Nanny nanny boo boo.
What gets really old are the comments from “people” about us being the proud parents of a “bully breed” dog. From the crotchety old couple next door to the AT&T installer, we get it from every angle. I agree that there are two types of people in this world, those who have been mauled by a Chow and those who are in love with the breed. We are smitten. In a side note: the two meanest dogs I have ever encountered were a Dachshund and a Cocker Spaniel and the two best dogs EVER are our previous princess (Lucy, a cinnamon Chow) and my sister’s Pit Bull, Roscoe. Having said that I think our sweet Pepper is shaping up to be quite the little lady.
I have included some photos to show just how terrible and vicious she can be. Enjoy!
The kiddos are smitten as well and the three of them are starting to get along. Just had to find thier place in the pack!
This is a toddler couch we have in the living room. It is now dog furniture.
See the vent under the cabinets? She is a whore for cold air. Hogs every vent. You would be too on a Missouri summer day wearing a black fur coat!
I think this one is my favorite. Attack mode.
Love,
