My birthday is still a week away but I received a gift in the mail from my far away sister.
My little sister has always been so good at everything she does. While living in Alaska she picked up a hobby that I often find myself jealous of. She is a ninja with needles, whether knitting or crochet. She must get this from our mom who is also very talented. I would be more likely to put an eye out than put a couple stitches together.
If you know me, or have read my previous post about mail (titled: Love you, Granny), then you know I am a snail-mail junkie. I LOVE it! So when I had a tag on the door the other day saying I had missed my package (not letter, package!!!), by mere minutes, I just about freaked. Did I order something and forget? Is it a present? What could it be?!?!? I could not wait for the mail to take it’s sweet romantic time and I drove to pick it up.
Holy crap! It’s a box. A BIG box! I just barely made it to the car before ripping it open.
In our house, as children, we had a rule: if it came in the mail it is fair game. We did not have to wait until Christmas or our birthdays to open these packages. Mom used the excuse that we never knew what was inside and it could, possibly, have the potential to spoil. God, love her!
This box had no indication, except for expert timing, that it was for my birthday until I got inside. It is the most beautiful crocheted throw with a handwritten note wishing me a Happy Birthday, from my sister and her family! In colors to match my living room perfectly. These photos do not do it justice, the brown is like dark chocolate and the green a pale sage, but here take a look:
The best part about this gift? Other than it came from my sister, who has probably had it in her hands for long periods of time, and who loved me enough to think to make and send it? It smells like her house! Thank you Sissy!!! XOXO
